2012
Art theory strategies are structural to the way I work. I want to 1 be caught off guard, 2 be sent into a confused vertigo and 3 question the status quo.
The most interesting art through history has posed questions and agitated for a different reference or starting point.

Until 'last week', I've believed that painting is intellectual and that I need to study more. It's chronic.
Painting is visceral language: word-forming cognition happens second. My preparation stage is finished.

The present is so serious. Daily, I need Dada practice. A rectangle, spun, takes up Noisy Space and requires less square inches in the bigger real estate it inhabits, not more work and lower pay. The remnant, the Drip, proves balance.

I added a New Haven studio so I could still work large in transformational processes that steam, flash, burn; in steel, canvas and stoneware.
I continued making replica work stations as souvenirs of power and light work sites. The 1990s red Sublime paintings were scaring me so I slashed them and dropped them down a chute. For a moment Phenomenology was my theses. The new work that I make still gives me a fright.
